Visit Washington DC During the Fall Harvest Family Days | Oct 20-21

Step back in time with your friends and family this fall, Oct. 20-21, at the annual Fall Harvest Family Days at Pioneer Farms at historic Mount Vernon. The autumn season kicks into high gear with this unique collection of interactive history, 18th-century activities, and character actors bringing our Founding Fathers and the early colonists and revolutionaries to life. With games for the kids, activities for all ages, live music, and plenty of refreshments on hand, this is a one of the most fun upcoming events in DC and is an excellent day of fun for the entire family at the scenic Mount Vernon estate on the banks of the beautiful Potomac River.

Upcoming Events in DC: Your Time Machine at the Fall Harvest in Mount Vernon

Come see as this preserved 18th century mansion brings the 1700’s to life before your very eyes. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride around the grounds and along the Mount Vernon Trail, or opt for the modern equivalent with a complimentary sightseeing cruise on the Potomac River (while supplies last) all weekend long. Kids can practice their stick and hoop, explore the straw bale maze, or play classic colonial games on the bowling green. Right next door at the Pioneer Farm you can observe George Washington himself as he demonstrates early farming techniques and what life was like living in the colonies before, during, and immediately after the Revolutionary War. Visit with the blacksmith (or the farrier, as he was known) to learn about 18th century metalworking, learn how to make a corn husk doll, try your hand – er, feet – at dancing with lessons and period dancing demonstrations, and enjoy the music of the era from the live band. If you are hungry, visit the vendors – both old and new – and be sure to try a roasted apple. Delicious! There are definitely a lot of activities in the Fall Harvest Family Days at Mount Vernon!
