Plan a Washington DC Events & Festivals Journey

Washington DC is a capital packed with places to explore, monuments to behold and memorials to encounter. With so many things happening on a daily basis, it’s hard to imagine there’s room for more, but Washington DC is also a place that knows how to celebrate. No matter when you arrive, it’s likely you’re just in time to participate in the next major festival or event. Here are a few to add to the calendar when you’re planning your trip to the nation’s capital to explore major attractions in Washington DC.

Spring: The National Cherry Blossom Festival

In 1912, Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Japan gifted Washington DC with 3,000 cherry trees as a symbol of unity and friendship between the two countries. To this day, locals and visitors celebrate the lasting comradery by celebrating The National Cherry Bloom Festival. The festival lasts four-weeks during the height of the cherry blossoms and includes a number of Washington DC events, tours and planting re-enactments that bring new life to a long cross-continental partnership. Impressive in it’s draw, the festival draws nearly 1.5 million visitors each year as Washington DC springs to life with blossoms of color.
