The most unique 5K/10K race in the greater District is back! This September 9th, join the hundreds of participants in this annual George Washington Patriot Run. This USATF-certified race boasts scenic views and the chance to follow in Washington’s footsteps as you meander along the banks of the Potomac and visit his famous home. It’s also one of the most exciting DC cultural events! Open to all ages and abilities, entry is open now; all participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and finisher’s medal ($50 prior to September 3rd, $60 September 3-9). The race begins at 8am and is followed by a kids’ fun run on the grounds of Mount Vernon at 9:45am.
The George Washington Patriot Run
Held rain or shine, and both the 5K and 10K races begin at 8am sharp on the grounds of Mount Vernon. Runners will head down the temporarily closed George Washington Parkway before doubling back at the respective turnarounds. The finish line is at the base of the estate, which is the site for the after-race festivities. The parkway will be re-opened at 9:30am; any runners still on the course will be diverted to the adjacent Mount Vernon Trail. Official times will not be recorded after 9:30am, but runners will be allowed to finish.
George Washington Patriot Run Post-Race Party
After a morning of experiencing this patriot run in Mt Vernon, the mid-day ramps things up a notch. Celebrate your achievement with a barrage of cannon fire on the 12-acre Field at Mount Vernon and relax with your fellow racers as you pose for finisher photos, receive your award medals, and enjoy concessions, ice cold beer, and live music on the manor grounds.
