Mount Vernon Fall Wine Festival
Say hello to autumn and enjoy a tasting tour of Virginia’s up-and-coming wineries at one of the most exciting events near DC, the Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour this October 5-7, 2018, on the scenic and historic grounds of Mount Vernon, the landmark estate of George Washington. Enjoy picturesque views from the East Lawn while you sip delicious local wines and listen to live jazz music as the setting sun sparkles on the Potomac River, then learn about the mansion and Washington’s own dalliances in winemaking with a guided tour of the buildings, grounds, and cellars. George and Martha Washington might even make an appearance and regale you with the stories of their own successes – and failures – in the winery business two centuries ago.
Wine and Dine in the Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour
Local winemakers such as 50 West, Chateau Morisette, Grey Horse, The Winery at Bull Run, and many more will be on hand offering selections of their premium varietals and years, all available for you to try with your paid admission. Fruit and cheese boxes may be reserved in advance, and Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant will be on hand providing a variety of hot and cold food items to spruce up your picnic on the lawn. Choose from specialty breads, gourmet sandwiches, and specialty sweets. Please note that outside food and beverage is not allowed.
Feel Like a VIP
Advance tickets are on sale now through October 7 and range from $38-48; VIP tables for 12 are also available and include admission, three bottles of Mount Vernon’s own house wine, a dessert platter, a cheese plate, and a private waiter. Others are encouraged to bring a blanket and grab a choice section of lawn from which you can enjoy the live music and scenic views of the Potomac at the Mount Vernon Fall Wine Festival.
Music is in the Air
Three different renowned local jazz acts will be performing at this three-day event. The David Bach Consort, a Baltimore-based ensemble that performs pop, rock, and traditional jazz, gets the nod on Friday, October 5; on October 6, the Nightlife Trio brings their diverse repertoire of high-energy jazz to the grounds; while Bruce Ewan – the “harmonica wizard” – returns to the festival for the 16th year and is joined by the Solid Senders to close out the weekend.
Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour is the perfect mix of interactive history, premium wine, and electrifying music, all backdropped against the stunning grounds and rich history of Mount Vernon.
