Old meets new this winter at the annual Christmas Illuminations at Mount Vernon mansion, December 14-15 from 5:30-8pm. Join with friends and family for a night of music, revelry, delicious holiday food, and a chance to see history come to life thanks to the talented re-enactors of the Mount Vernon Society and the First Virginia Regiment.
A Season of Lights
While Mount Vernon will be adorned in its Christmas finest, the true holiday show will take to the heavens with a fireworks display choreographed to holiday music. The family-friendly fun begins at 5:30 pm when guests can visit the Museum and Education Center, stroll the grounds while being serenaded by local choirs singing traditional carols and hymns, and even learn 18th century dance steps from costumed docents in the Greenhouse. At 8pm the fireworks begin, so grab a blanket and a spot on the lawn and prepare to drop your jaw in amazement at this incredible array of aerial artistry over the scenic banks of the Potomac, it’s definitely one of the most exciting Christmas events in Washington DC.
